-this is another play on the movies i love to watch while i work. i adore 'the man with no name' trilogy and i believe sergio leone was a painter among film makers. this painting shows a moment in 'a fistful of dollars' where clint eastwood's character has just been shot repeatedly by the bad guy. anyone who has seen this film remembers how he keeps getting up and walking towards his killer proclaiming "aim for the heart or you'll never get me". it is then when he lifts his cloak to reveal a plate of steel over his chest and he proceeds to drop it to the ground before finishing the duel.
i think this painting is a visual metaphor and for me it is a dialogue that challenges or taunts god to pursue and reveal himself to the challenger. the meaning of this image is subjective of course, but i certainly enjoyed finding a spiritual quality to a violent moment. and of course 'spaghetti westerns' rock!
